I agree that the survey leaves something to be desired, but these lists are generally good only for directional indications of what sites (or trends) are breaking out, rather than for truly accurate gauges of specific site traffic.
What is the min # of monthly uniques required to qualify for the list? Obviously less than 1M uniques/month… I’m curious what the cut off was.
AP - war this year and none last year on the survey date.
HSBC amalgamated many areas of multiple sites (com / .co.uk / .au, etc.) – so their growth number is likely a reflection of that change rather than real growth.
AP increased their syndication & distribution. Also, last year saw the first real onslaught of RSS aggregators gaining popularity; this is probably why their numbers jumped so much.

This is a pretty useless survey; should be on absolute new users during the period…not percentage change.
