Interesting data from washingtonpost.com regarding the most popular sites on the web. Note that this data measures unique visitors rather than page views. A few observations:

  • Growth at MySpace, Wikipedia, and Blogger is astonishing.
  • Google may overtake Yahoo as the #1 site on the web within a year or two.
  • What’s happening at Expedia and Orbitz? Both seem to be hemorrhaging traffic.
  • MapQuest is an amazing property. It receives about 1/3 as much traffic as Yahoo does–despite offering far less content (maps only)… and the maps themselves are arguably much less usable than what you can find on Yahoo or Google (ie no ajax). Lesson: branding matters.
  • Interesting that Apple’s site gets ~50% more traffic than Dell’s does (the sites are #23 and #45, respectively), even though Dell generates ~4x more revenue (~$56B vs ~$14B).

[…] Top Web Domains Washington Post published a list of the top web domains from February 2006.(via A Venture Forth) […]

Despite spending 8-12 hours a day on the net, I only ever visit two of these top 50 sites (google and wikipaedia) - Crazy what you learn about yourself when faced with web stats :)

links from Technoratit get a look in. [IMG Trademe]Trademe (our alternative to eBay) was sold recently for a figure so high in the hundreds of millions that I shake just thinking of it. The rest of the world may be talking about thetop global domain names but you know what? In New Zealand we just don’t go there - eBay is not only NOT a household name, the only people in this country that visit it go to buy stuff to resell on Trademe. [IMG Zoomin Maps]

From: Mrs.Rachael Harrison

I am the above named person from Cote D’Ivorie. I am married to late Alexander Harrison of blessed memory for the past twelve years before he died in theyear
2002. We are married for eleven years without a child; he died after a brief illness thatlasted for only four days.

Before his death we were both devoted Christians.Since his death I too have been battling with both cancer and fibroid problem. When my late husbandwas alive he deposited the sum of($10Million U.S.Dollars only) with a financier security company, recently my doctor told me that I would not last forthe next three months due to my cancer problem.

Having known my condition, I decided to donate thisfund to a charity organization, devoted Christianindividual or God fearing person and
moreespecially the victims of Hurricane Katrina I want anorganization, individuals or God-fearing persons to use this money with all sincerity to fund
churches, orphanages, widows and also propagatingthe word of God miracle.

The Word of God emphasizes so much on God benevolenceand this I took this decision because I don’t have anychild that will inherit this money andmy
husbandrelatives are not God fearing and I don’twant a situation whereby this money will be used in anunholy manner.

Hence the reasons for taking this bold decision. Iknow that after death I will be with Godthe most beneficent and most merciful. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receiveyour reply, I shall give you the contact of theSecurity Company where the funds were depositedfor safekeeping.

I will also issue an order ofauthority to the Security Company, authorizing themthat the said funds have being willed to you. I want you and the believers /community where you reside to always pray for me.

My happiness is that I lived a true devoted lifeworthy of emulation. Whosoever, that wants to serveGod must serve him in truth and fairness. Pleasealways be
prayerful all through your life.

You will have 40% out of the total amount for all yourtime to carry out this dream and to cover whateverexpenditures to claim this money.

Until I hear from you today unfailingly, my dream willrest squarely on your shoulders.

May the Almighty God continue to guide and protect us.

Best regards.

Mrs Rachael Harrison
