I’m addicted to Chessmaster. It’s not that the game offers the best interface, AI, or rating system (all are very good, but comparable alternatives can be found elsewhere)–I’m hooked on the excellent tutorial, which was designed and voiced by Josh Waitzkin (the subject of the movie Searching For Bobby Fisher). It’s both easy to follow and complete, covering basic, intermediate, and advanced tactics and strategy. You can also find narrated commentary for famous games played by grandmasters.
Great entertainment, especially if you’re trapped on a cross country flight. I bought it for $40, but Amazon recently reduced the price to $20.
