Interesting posts from around the web:
- Web Sites Hawking Phone Records Shut Down. Gone are the days when you could quickly (and without identification) purchase a list of numbers that others had dialed on their cell phones. Many asked how these companies were able to get access to others’ call records. According to a CNN story I saw, one tactic these companies used was to (1) call cell phone carriers claiming to be a family friend and then (2) tell the cell phone company that the customer in question had just had throat surgery and, that in mind, was unable to speak.
- Slowdown on Amazon’s Mechanical Turks? A quick check of Amazon’s site shows only 6 available jobs, which doesn’t seem like much. Is this a good idea in theory, but one that doesn’t work in practice?
- Edgio gets closer to launch. Rob Hof has a good story on Edgio, a new startup run by TechCrunch’s Mike Arrington and Keith Teare. I’ll be watching this one.
- Stopping Flagrant Piracy of Mint. Shuan Inman, developer of a fantastic web stats package called Mint, writes about software piracy. It’s an old, persistent, pernicious problem.
- Ted Leonsis has a blog.
