From the MIT Media Lab: the I/O Brush. The idea is relatively simple. Take a regular paint brush and then add a tiny video camera, a few LEDs, and a pressure sensor to trigger image capture. Combine this with a touch-screen, and you get a device that can “paint” color, texture, and movement.

Watch the video; it’s hard to understand without seeing it…

There is a professor at Oberlin who did this wirelessly last year. They could just paint in the air and the art would pop up on a projected image on a stage. I believe color choice was controlled by an on-screen palate ala Photoshop. Never saw it in person but it sounded impressive and the scale would be larger since you don’t need a touch screen. Very cool stuff.
