Would certainly have been cheaper had eBay partnered rather than acquired. But PayPal seems to be working out well–and eBay paid a high price for that, too. Hard to knock how well eBay has integrated PayPal into their core system, and how well managed the company is, in general.

I had initially thought that eBay just wanted to branch into the VoIP business, but from the document, it seems like all they want to do is to improving eBay’s customer base and to integrate Skype into eBay to improve communication because sellers and buyers.
Even if it works out the way they say it would, I don’t know if $2.6B is a good price for that.
