According to Technorati, there are almost 16M blogs already (up from 3.5M just a year ago), so why add another?
A few reasons:
- I’d like to join the fun. I’ve generally been a passive blog reader for some time and have often found myself muttering words of abomination or glee (or both) in response to various articles. While it’s probably too late to save my reputation–my colleagues likely already think I’m daft from hearing my rants when they know I’m alone and not on the phone–I still have time to actively engage with others and, hopefully, contribute. The technologies that intrigue me the most tend to be enablers. Blogging enables quick, easy, and efficient communication between interested people.
- I needed an excuse to write. I think best and most clearly when writing; I certainly need the practice.
- I want to play with the technology. By way of background, I’m a computer science major turned technology investor. While I’ve always been interested in understanding how stuff works, I’ve found myself getting decreasingly close to the bits and bytes that form the foundation underneath many of the tools I use–and invest in–regularly. A partial goal for this blog is to dig more deeply into online advertising, commerce, web analytics, presentation formats, and other slices of the technology pie that fuel the modern internet.
In upcoming posts, I’ll lay out a few particular areas of interest and describe my current investment strategy.
UPDATE: As of 8/31 (8 days after this was originally posted), Technorati now tracks 16.4M blogs. More than 400,000 new blogs in 8 days…

Good job.
